Biomechanics and voice release from the vocal work of Fitzmaurice Voicework® and J. Grotowski

Class Description

Depending on your needs or interests, we will focus on one or both approaches:
-Spoken vocal technique
-Sung vocal technique
Fitzmaurice Voicework® is widely recognized in the United States and taught in the most prestigious singing, music and theater schools. In Europe he is a pioneer in his field. It has influences from bioenergetics and Italian bel canto. Its objective is to develop our vocal potential, both in speaking and singing.
Grotowski's vocal work focuses on eliminating obstructions and blockages that prevent the person from expressing themselves to the fullest extent. It focuses on the body-voice relationship, resonance cavities and working with singing, seeking genuine expression and creativity.

What will we learn?

Vocal warm-up
Body awareness and muscle tone for proper functioning of the speech system.
Body positions based on bioenergetics to work on the body-voice relationship
Freedom and ease in breathing, as the main driving force of voice and singing
Different aspects of vocal technique such as emission, vocal support, resonance cavities, projection, etc.
Sung improvisation practices
Songs that are of interest to you (some that you have learned or I will teach you one that you like)

This work is aimed at actors, singers, teachers, announcers and anyone who wants to work on their voice and acquire greater technique, explore it, have difficulties speaking in public or feel that there is something "blocked" in their breathing or vocal practice.

VEDIC CHANTING CLASSES

Mantras in Sanskrit from the Veda following the tradition of Sri Krishnamacharya

Class Description

Vedic chanting is the traditional way of chanting the Veda (holy book of Hinduism) and is made up of mantras in Sanskrit. According to Hindu tradition, these mantras were heard by the ṛṣi (great yogis of India) in a state of meditation, which is why Vedic chants are considered sacred. They date back approximately 3,500 years and were transmitted orally and in their original form from master to disciple to the present day. Accurate pronunciation is essential, as it involves connecting with the vibratory level of each sound, each of which can awaken an inner quality in both the speaker and the listener.
Simple or more complex mantras will be worked on, depending on your interests: gāyatrī mantra, saha nāvavatu, abhyāroha mantra (asatomā), pūrṇamadah mantra, sūrya namaskār mantra, laghunyāsah, gaṇapati prārthanā, others...
We will study with the mantras transliterated from the original Sanskrit to our spellings of the Roman alphabet. Although if you want, I can also teach you the mantras with the Sanskrit spellings (in Devanāgarī).

The pronunciation of each of the Sanskrit letters
The use of the voice and breathing during singing, so that we can sing without tension or blockages
How to prepare the body to chant the mantra and receive its effects

DHRUPAD CLASSES (HINDOSTANI CLASSICAL SINGING)

Singing as an artistic and meditative practice based on the rāgas system of Indian vocal music.

Class Description

Dhrupad singing is one of the oldest musical genres of Indian classical music. Tradition says that its origin is found in the Veda, specifically in the Sāma Veda. In addition to being a very refined vocal art, we can insert this practice into what we would call meditative or devotional singing. According to one of its main exponents: “The dhrupad is essentially a form of individual contemplation, best sung for oneself or for a small group of experts (…) it means the path to liberation (mokṣa), it is ancient music of divine origin that produces not only aesthetic pleasure but also inner joy.” (Dagar, U.F.)

What will we learn?

The vocal technique of voice placement and resonance of Indian classical singing
Different rāgas (musical scales, with their specific movements used in Indian classical music.)
The practice of ākār or exploration with the tonic (Sa)
Intracorporeal and extracorporeal resonances
The practice of ālāp (improvisation within a rāga)
Kharaj to expand the vocal register and connect with the subtle sound
Bandish (traditional dhrupad compositions or songs)
The “rasas” or atmospheres created by the different rāgas.
The connection of the notes and rāgas with the subtle centers of the body (chakras) and energy channels (nāḍīs)
Devotional and meditative practices through dhrupad chanting (Sound Yoga or Bhakti yoga practices)

This work is aimed at singers, yoga practitioners and teachers, sound therapists, interested in the Yoga of Sound, Bhakti Yoga and anyone who wants to work on their voice and singing or feels that there is something “blocked” in their breathing or vocal practice.

VIBRATORY CHANTING CLASSES

Internal balance and self-care through voice.

Class Description

Vibratory Chanting is the result of the research of my doctoral thesis Singing as a tool of verticality and its therapeutic applications under the tutelage of the transpersonal psychologist Dr. Amador Cernuda. The results obtained in the thesis indicated a reduction in the values of Tension, Depression, Anger, State Anxiety, Fatigue and Tiredness, after performing Vibratory Singing exercises. It could, therefore, be installed within the field of music therapy.
Vibratory Singing is an autonomous tool, which seeks, through the vibration of the voice in one's own body, to positively affect the body, mind and emotions of the person who sings.

What will we learn?

To develop the vibratory capacity of the body, so that singing itself can have its beneficial effect
Abdominal breathing, free and natural
To free ourselves from physical and emotional tensions through the body and voice
To harmonize ourselves through sounds, words and songs
The practice of prolonged exhalations and its effects on mind and emotions
The use of sounds or sung improvisations, in relation to parts of the body that need to be heard, expressed and harmonized
Therapeutic sounds from Ayurveda
Different sound frequencies and their psychophysical effects
We will work with simple melodies and sounds that are very easy to make. It is not necessary to “know how to sing.”

This work is aimed at people who want to do personal work through their voice, therapists, music therapists and anyone who feels that there is something blocked in their breathing or vocal practice.
